Abstract

Entamoeba histolytica has a worldwide prevalence, especially where sanitation is poor and is more common in developing countries of the tropics. Majority of cases are asymptomatic. Among the numerous types of free living amoeba (FLA) found in water and soil, a few are potentially pathogenic and can cause human infections.
