Postoperative Rhabdomyolysis in Deep Inferior Epigastric Perforator Flap Breast Reconstruction

  • Chapter
Breast Reconstruction

Abstract

Rhabdomyolysis and its attendant complications of renal failure are uncommon in elective plastic surgery outwith obesity surgery. We present two cases of rhabdomyolysis developing after elective (but) immediate post-mastectomy breast reconstruction. The pathophysiology and the management strategies employed to successfully prevent serious complications are discussed.
