Abstract
Background: Telemedicine has recently emerged as a powerful tool for medical care from a distance. This new technology has the potential to revolutionize how healthcare is delivered and has been used for various medical specialities, including orthodontics. This aims to evaluate the ‘use and aid of telemedicine in orthodontics. Methods: PubMed, Web of Science and Lilacs were systematically searched until 31/01/2023. In addition, a manual search was performed using the bibliography of selected articles and a Google Scholar search. Articles were selected that met the tele orthodontics. The papers were read to assess their eligibility. Results: 106 articles were selected. Specifically, 70 articles were found in PubMed, one from Lilacs, and 35 from Web of Science. Clinical trials were selected as inclusion criteria.
Therefore, three papers with inclusion criteria were selected; Conclusions: Teleorthodontics facilitates treatment by distributing orthodontics-based patient records across oral healthcare practitioners; nonetheless, domiciliary examination and visitation must be unpostponable in doubtful cases. Meanwhile, telemedicine is helpful in cases where the clinician has certainty. More research is required to create moral standards and a standard of care in this developing sector.
