Zusammenfassung
Selbstmord ist leider sehr verbreitet unter älteren Menschen. Die Auseinandersetzung mit dem Thema aus der Perspektive der Positiven Psychologie kann helfen zu verstehen, welche Stärken man fördern kann, um ältere Menschen daran zu hindern, Selbstmord zu begehen. In dem vorliegenden Kapitel werde ich zunächst untersuchen, was Selbstmord für ältere Menschen bedeutet und theoretische Modelle zusammenfassen, die versuchen zu erklären, warum sie sich möglicherweise für eine solche Tat entscheiden. Zweitens werde ich betrachten, wie man das Risiko für Selbstverletzung bei älteren Menschen erkennen kann. Drittens werde ich die Risiko- und Schutzfaktoren aus einer entwicklungspsychologischen Perspektive diskutieren, nämlich wie Entwicklungsaspekte im Alter (z. B. soziale Fähigkeiten, kognitive Fähigkeiten, Persönlichkeitsmerkmale, emotionale Regulation, körperliche Attribute) entweder den Selbstmord im Alter erleichtern oder davor schützen können. Schließlich werde ich untersuchen, wie man die Prinzipien der Positiven Psychologie nutzen kann, um Präventionsprogramme für verschiedene Zielgruppen älterer Menschen zu entwerfen. Außerdem werde ich analysieren, wie Entwicklungsaspekte im Zusammenhang mit dem Alter eine Rolle bei der Prävention von Selbstmord spielen können.
