Facial Reconstruction of Unusual Facial Clefts

Abstract

There are thousands of rare diseases in aggregate affecting millions of people worldwide. Among those, rare forms of clefts are included. These unusual cleft cases are sporadic and likely due to significant gene effects. This chapter discusses the modes of inheritance of rare diseases in general and rare forms of clefts. It raises concerns regarding the clinical practice of genetic counseling and ethical issues of increasing demand for whole genome sequencing.
