Abstract
In the DAMA DMBOK, reference data management and master data management are lumped together in a single functional area. To stay consistent with the DMBOK, they are also discussed together here. Reference data is loosely defined as ‘data that helps to make sense of other data.’ Typically, it comes in the form of lists or hierarchies of codes with a well-defined meaning. Master data management deals with the challenge of organizing a ‘golden copy’ of data, a source that we believe to be the (single version of the) truth.
