Talent Acquisition Practices in South Africa

Abstract

The global war for talent has led organisations to rethink their talent acquisition strategies. Employee value proposition (EVP) and employer branding are some of the strategies recently revitalised to facilitate attractiveness and contribute towards the competitiveness of an organisation. The search for top talent transcends domestic borders, and therefore, organisations deploy various technology-assisted recruitment methods to tap into the global market. Consequently, the selection process for suitably qualified candidates for vacant positions has included factors such as the cultural fitness of the candidate and the person-environment fit. The improvement of recruitment methods is vital to minimise costs associated with making incorrect selection decisions while maximising productivity within a limited period. This chapter elucidates the means through which organisations can expand their search for top talent while increasing the probability of placing the right candidates in the right roles. The chapter intends to provide in-depth insight into the talent acquisition approaches and strategies that assist organisations in thriving in the current world of work.
