Abstract

A steady increase in alcohol production, availability and consumption in China has been noted over recent decades, which has led to rising health burdens. In this chapter, we review a multitude of epidemiological studies, both regionally and nationwide, on alcohol consumption, alcohol use disorder and alcohol-related liver disease (ALD) in China. We also collated risk factors that have been reported as relevant to ALD occurrence and development. This updated knowledge serves as a supplement to the global understanding of alcohol and health, and as a reference for the development of health response in China.
