Abstract

Inter-α-inhibitor-family proteins (IAIP) are a multifaceted group of complex molecules with important roles in mammalian biology. In the past 20 years, new research has highlighted the central role of this protein family in homeostasis and disease pathogenesis. These insights suggest that IAIP may have significant utility as treatment targets in human disease, and therefore, research into IAIP should be intensified. This review summarizes the current knowledge on IAIP and highlights the remaining gaps in knowledge.
