Abstract

Ankylosing spondylitis (AS) is an HLA-B27 associated rheumatoid disease and prototypical spondyloarthritis. In addition to cardiopulmonary comorbidities, axial spondyloarthritis is one of the major clinical features among AS. Spine is the primary skeletal site involved, starting from sacroiliac joint and progressing rostrally to lumbar then cervical spine. Cervical spine fracture is a common complication in AS patients that usually cause spinal cord injury and significant neurologic deterioration. Cervical spine deformity is another troublesome condition that leads to severe disability and poor health-related quality of life in AS patients. Cutting-edge managements for AS-involved cervical spine disease will be further described in the chapter.
