Abstract

Walter Coote, a private infantryman that went to Korea in 1952, rarely talked about his service in the war, not until he got older. It took time to process the war’s seriousness and the drudgery of trench warfare. Injured on two occasions, Walter spent time in the infamous M*A*S*H* tents. His recollections also recall the bonhomie of fellow soldiers, the superior nature of American rations, and the Japanese beer they drank.
