Abstract

The paper presents the results of studies of the CAST gene polymorphism in sheep of the Edilbay breed. Recently, research aimed at identifying the relationship between the level of productivity and its qualitative characteristics with certain genetic markers has gained particular popularity. The combination of innovative and traditional breeding methods in working with the Edilbay breed is at the stage of formation, since the available research is still insufficient for the broad integration of various breeding methods. Information on the relationship of meat productivity of sheep with polymorphic systems of calpastatin of the Edilbay breed is one of the elements of creating an information base designed to optimize the breeding process with the breed. Methods of biotechnology and molecular genetics such as polymerase chain reaction allow the identification of desired genotypes, the fixation of which in the breed will increase the potential. Calpastatin is an enzyme that belongs to the calpain family of enzymes. An association of calpastatin gene polymorphism with indicators of meat productivity was revealed. The tasting assessment of the ram meat of Edilbay breed showed that the mutton obtained from animals of the AB genotype had higher organoleptic indicators - 4.62 points, relative to the AA genotypes. The CAST_AB genotype was set as desirable in terms of meat qualities of the Edilbay breed of sheep.
