Abstract
The practice of public health and epidemiology is increasingly complex. Therefore, the need to continue providing scientific evidence from the approach of different study fields to create and implement health care and treatment models is fundamental. This chapter discusses the life-course approach and its principles on epidemiology, as well as the main challenges or obstacles. It also reviews the approach of translational epidemiology research and concludes by discussing the elements constituting postmodern epidemiology. It is essential to recognize the transition from conventional epidemiology research toward an overview in which the incorporation of a life-course approach and basic knowledge translation create opportunities to respond in a better way to new challenges. In this way, it can contribute to improving decision-making in favor of population and individual health.
