The Conflict Tactics Scale was developed by Straus in 1979, later revised, to study intimate partner violence in the areas of physical and psychological violence, negotiation, injury, and sexual coercion.
The Conflict Tactics Scale (CTS), later revised to the CTS2, was developed by Murray Straus and was first used in his 1979 publication on intra-family conflict and violence. Since its inception, the Conflict Tactics Scale has been revered as one of the greatest tools created to measure intimate partner violence quantitatively. Compared to many other studies on the topic where qualitative methods were preferred, the CTS, and CTS2, have allowed for a reliable and valid measure of intimate partner abuse.
