MRI of the Upper Extremity

Abstract

One of the most common injuries in the hand is injury to the ulnar collateral ligament of the thumb’s metacarpophalangeal joint. MRI is an excellent tool in diagnosing ulnar collateral ligament injuries, which most often require surgical intervention to maintain thumb function. In this chapter, we will review anatomy unique to the thumb and describe MRI findings of traumatic pathology.
