Abstract

For the capacitor fluctuation problem of modular multilevel converter (MMC) sub-module, this paper presents a voltage fluctuation suppression strategy for MMC submodule injected with common mode voltage and circulating current. Firstly, make the system work in a higher modulation ratio state by injecting common mode voltage. Then, according to the mathematical mode of the MMC half-bridge sub-module, the analytical formula of the bridge arm power after the common mode voltage is injected is derived. From the perspective of reducing the power fluctuation of the bridge arm, a circulation current injection strategy is proposed, which realizes the voltage fluctuation suppression of the MMC sub-module that injects the common mode voltage and the circulation current at the same time. Finally, the effectiveness of the strategy proposed in this paper was verified through a 14-level MMC experiment platform, and the experimental results show that the capacitance fluctuation amplitude of the small module can be greatly reduced.
