Subdural Hematoma

Abstract

Chronic subdural hematoma (CSDH) is predominantly a disease of the elderly and is rare in children. The exact incidence of CSDH is unknown. This entity occurs due to the separation of the arachnoid mater from the dura mater. Chronically, accumulation of subdural fluid may occur as the result of one or more of four main pathologic mechanisms. The most common cause of CSDH in the pediatric population is trauma. The clinical presentation of CSDH in children differs according to the age of the patient and the cause of the bleeding. The method of surgical treatment is still controversial.
