Tips and Tricks in Plastic Surgery

Abstract

Enhanced visibility and understanding of gender diversity has led to increasing requests for gender affirmation procedures to be performed in the United States and abroad. The World Professional Association of Transgender Health has established Standards of Care that offer recommendations for patients and surgeons to consider prior to undertaking gender confirmation surgery. There have been many techniques described to perform these procedures and, with some special considerations within this population, patients are found to often be very satisfied with their surgical result. Overall, complication rates of the most commonly performed procedures are low. The following is a discussion of the most commonly requested transmasculine and transfeminine gender affirmation procedures.
