Abstract

This chapter discusses swarm intelligence, which is a complex discipline that seeks to understand and replicate both natural and artificial systems that are composed of several parts but effectively coordinate their activities through decentralized control. This type of intelligence is often displayed in nature through the habits of animals like bees, fish, birds, and ants. Thus swarm intelligence can be regarded as the collective behavior that emerges from social insects working together and following few rules. Swarm intelligence is the collective behavior emerging in systems with locally interacting entities.
