Abstract
The prevalence of valvular heart disease (VHD) increases with age, primarily related to degenerative changes. Aortic valve stenosis and mitral valve regurgitation are the two most common types of valvular disease. The high frequency of comorbidities with increasing age adds to the complexity of decision making, thus necessitating a “Heart Team” approach with expertise in VHD. Within the Heart team, expertise in cardiac imaging including CT and MRI is a growing need, as the armamentarium for evaluation of VHD continues to get more sophisticated with the goal to diagnose, quantify, and to assess the mechanism of VHD.
