Abstract
Perinatal loss encompasses miscarriage, stillbirth, and neonatal death. These loss experiences are often unexpected and may be traumatic for many birthing parents. In addition to grief and bereavement, birthing parents who have experienced perinatal loss may develop clinically significant symptoms of anxiety, depression, and posttraumatic stress. Psychological sequelae, assessment, and treatment are discussed.
