Abstract
Healthcare is the most regulated economic activity in the USA; and, therefore, not unexpectedly, is subject to a large array of federal, state, and local statutes, regulations, laws, and ordinances. Although such regulatory oversight applies to clinical practices, as well as healthcare institutions of all sizes, the scope of regulatory oversight is best exemplified in the regulation of acute and long-term care facilities. The importance of compliance with all applicable laws is vital to operational and strategic integrity.
