Abstract
Benign colorectal strictures are commonly encountered in clinical practice and may adversely affect the quality of life. They can be secondary specially to colorectal anastomosis and Crohn’s disease and less often to diverticular disease, large endoscopic resections, endometriosis, radiotherapy, and ischemia.
Several techniques had been employed to treat this adverse event such as digital, instrumental, and balloon dilation (with or without corticosteroid injection), electrosurgical incision, and metal stents, including lumen-apposing metal stents.
The choice of therapy should take into account the different etiologies, location, and extent. For lesions shorter than 5 cm in length, endoscopic treatment has good success rates, avoiding invasive surgical procedures and contributing to quality of life for these patients.
