Abstract
Coal can be burned in a number of ways. Depending on the characteristics of the coal and the particular boiler application, the designer may chose pulverized coal (PC) firing, cyclone firing, stoker, or fluidized bed firing methods. Whatever method is applied, raw coal should be prepared before being fed into the furnace. The preparation process has a major impact on the combustion in the furnace. Different types of boilers have different requirements as to the characteristics (size and moisture content, etc.) of the fuel fed into the furnace. Thus there is a variety of coal preparation systems.
