Abstract

An interrupt is a signal (which may either be generated by the computer hardware or produced by an instruction) that causes the computer to temporarily suspend or interrupt the normal sequence of operations, and transfer control to an ‘interrupt routine’. There are two forms of interrupt, namely

  1. 1.

    non-maskable interrupts

  2. 2.

    maskable interrupts.
