Abstract

The performance of single-phase machines is usually inferior to that of three-phase machines, and their cost, for a given output and speed, is higher. For this reason single-phase motors are normally only used where a three-phase supply is not available and their application is mainly restricted to domestic, office and agricultural purposes.
