Synthesis-Obtained by treatment of 3-nitro-4-hydroxycoumarin — m.p. 177° (d) — with refluxing in a mixture of 58% hydriodic acid solution and acetic acid for 15 min. The iodine produced during the reaction was reduced with hypophosphorous acid [664].
