Evaluation of particulate zinc and copper as wood preservatives for termite control

Abstract

Subterranean termites are a major factor in the biodegradation of wood construction products. In this study the efficacy of wood treated with micronized copper, zinc oxide and their mixture was compared to that of wood treated with soluble amine copper oxide against subterranean termites in a laboratory test. All of the formulations tested were effective in controlling wood degradation by the termites, with copper being slightly more effective than zinc and micronized copper being slightly more effective than amine copper.
