An essay on theNyāyapraveśa was written by me at the University of Toronto during the winter of 1977–1978. Later, when Martha Lile Love and I were engaged in research at Poona University, we developed a framework in which to put the results of our work. To assess the viability of our framework, we searched for a suitable text with which we had some competence. TheNyāyapraveśa turned out to be such a text. What began as the revision of my essay became the creation of a new essay. Tragically, before we could complete our final draft, Martha died. Belatedly, I have put the final touches on our manuscript.
