Abstract
Specific heat measurements between 0.5 and 2.4 K were carried out on pure Fe and five alloys with W (0.5, 1, 2, 5, and 10 at. % W). The electronic specific heat coefficient γ decreases linearly up to 5% W. For the 10% alloy the coefficient increased almost by a factor of two and a small term, constant in temperature, had to be included in the analysis of the data. A split-band model is believed to explain the decrease as well as the increase of γ. The existence of a magnon contribution to the specific heat was established in all the samples.
