Abstract

The air water interfacial motions are known to strongly affect the mass transfer between these media. Experimental work was carried out to better understand the motions, especially for waves in the capillary-gravity range. At small wind speed and short fetch, random, three-dimensional Crapper-like waves dominate the wave field. Their effects on gas transfer could be analyzed thru a linear hydrodynamic stability model. Otherwise, the mass transfer would be influenced by the observed mixed non-linear processes such as the gravity wave breaking, the wave-wave and the wind-wave interactions.
