Abstract

A correlation of coronary heart disease risk with periodontitis is strongly supported by a growing body of clinical studies. The findings reported in this chapter point to the fibroplasia per SMC in the coronary intima as the specific stage of atherogenesis most closely associated with poor dental condition. This finding offers possible clues to the mysterious origins of the fibroplasia.
