Abstract

The plaster room is an integral part of any Accident and Emergency department. In small district hospitals the plaster facilities are shared by the orthopedic and the accident departments. This concentration of work generally merits the employment of a plaster technician who, with the assistance of the medical and nursing staff, is responsible for the application, removal and repair of casts during normal working hours. At other times the Emergency nurse is expected to apply the plaster casts and splints that are used in the treatment of fractures.
