Abstract
As forests, hedgerows, and isolated tree solitaires disappear, their role in the mixing of ground water and in evapotranspiration is reduced. Electrical charges power the movements of soil waters, evapotranspiration and the daily oscillations of the water-table. These are related to plant activity. A review of these processes leads to simple recommendations: replant forests, hedgerows, and isolated trees; and avoid irrigation in full sun, irrigate only after dark. This is of especial importance in headwater areas, where the precipitation is often higher and the slope steeper.
