Energy Efficient Domestic Appliances — Analyses and Field Tests

Abstract

This paper compares domestic electricity savings achieved in real world with those based on analyses. The main field test described involved twenty families, which had all their major appliances replaced by the most efficient models available. The savings obtained by replacing existing appliances with the best on the market and a few minor modifications turned out to be close to 50% and in good agreement with earlier analyses to the extent that a comparison was possible. Further electricity savings seem to be realistic on the basis of technological analyses.
