Abstract
Japan’s economic success has puzzled many people around the world. Less known are the Japanese results in the environmental field, although many people remember the air pollution and “Minimata” disease as casualties of the 1960’s. As the Japanese example is often used in forecasting the future, it might be interesting to look more closely into their environmental policies.
