Abstract
Economic plants are often considered in terms of angiosperms and gymnosperms, the important contribution made by the ferns, mosses, fungi, algae, etc. tends to be overlooked. Here they are being considered separately from the flowering plants in this and the following chapter in order to stress their economic importance for the food, drink, medicine, biochemical industries, etc.
