Abstract
Hyperalimentation has been used in a wide variety of surgical and medical problems. In general, the indications for total parenteral nutrition (TPN), which is an important facet of hyperalimentation, are to maintain an adequate nutritional state or improve it in a previously undernourished individual. Its use is indicated only when oral or tube feedings are contraindicated or are inadequate.
