A social—psychological approach to alcohol use and abuse

Abstract

As the awareness of the importance of cultural factors in alcoholism grows1, the need for a model of how they influence alcohol use increases. Such a model could help us to understand the common features of different drinking styles typical of cultures in which alcoholism rates are either high or low, and the features that differentiate cultures which differ in such rates.
