Abstract

Regions of extensive industrial dereliction are common in those developed countries where rapid and uncontrolled growth took place in the 19th century and where industrial activities were subsequently brought to a halt by depletion of raw materials or by market changes. It is now widely recognised that ecological information is of considerable value in the rehabilitation and redevelopment of such areas.
