Abstract
The paper reviews the design of the Swedish vacuum solar telescope, emphasizing the importance of its aerodynamic design and high optical quality, and the new techniques used for real-time frame selection and data reduction.
Recent results from the reduction of a 79 minute sequence of quiet sun granulation data involve the discovery of a stable vortex structure, which dominates the development of nearby granules and the measurement of instantaneous and average flow fields related to granule dynamics and mesogranulation.
