Abstract

This is a study on the scope of energy conservation in multi-storied buildings across Indian cities by employing daylighting control for the illumination needs of the building. In this study, the possibility of energy savings in a 11-storey building in various Indian cities under various conditions such as different illumination levels and different building orientations has been estimated and analyzed using EnergyPlus simulation software. It is found that 50–60 % of energy expenditure toward building lighting can be saved by adopting proper daylighting control techniques right from the time of building design to maintenance of the control system.
