Abstract
There is a class of epidemiological model which contains both biological and operational components. Such models are directed towards problems of health-care planning, where the rational design and development of a service demands a planning tool which responds not only to operational considerations (e.g. queuing, manpower constraints, etc.), but which predicts the effects of biological uncertainties (e.g. natural history of disease, response to vaccine etc.) and of the human problems of implementation (e.g. responsiveness, compliance etc.)
