Abstract

Phase transitions of monolayers of one-, two- and multichain amphiphiles are compared. The nature and defect structure of the crystalline phases exhibiting long-range orientational order but short-range spatial order are discussed and the question of hexatic phase formation is addressed.

  10. Radiation damage cannot be excluded in the coexistence region. The exposure times are rather long and the electron diffraction experiments show that the damage occurs an order of magnitude faster below ne than in the completely condensed state.
