Abstract
As has been demonstrated in the preceding chapters multiple pulse NMR and cross-polarization of dilute spins are the most prominent techniques for evaluating the chemical shielding tensor σ of nuclei in solids. Other methods for determining parts of the chemical shielding tensor like the “second moment” analysis, the NMR of partially oriented molecules dissolved in clath-rates or liquid crystals will not be reviewed in this monograph because the shift tensors determined by these methods are mostly unreliable. A review of these methods including theoretical calculations has been given recently by Appleman and Dailey [1]. The interested reader is referred to their review article also for additional reference of chemical shielding data.
