Abstract

Except for two series of studies by Schröder with the guppy, and Newcombe and his co-workers with trout, the number of reports of fish radiation genetics is still small (cf. Schröder, 1969; Newcombe and McGregor, 1968). In a series of papers, the present authors have reported the cell killing effects of X-rays on germ cells at different stages in the freshwater fish, Oryzias latipes (Egami, 1963; Egami and Hyodo, 1965 a,b; Konno and Egami, 1966). Since a preliminary experiment designed to study the relative sensitivity of various germ cell stages of the fish to radiation-induced dominant lethal mutations was carried out, the results will be briefly presented in this report.
