Abstract

Good acuity plus photosensitivity (GAPP) syndrome is a relatively new syndrome that has been seen with the introduction of the femtosecond laser for creating LASIK flaps. It has also been called transient light-sensitivity syndrome. This syndrome typically presents 2–6 weeks following LASIK with the femtosecond laser and involves extreme light sensitivity despite a completely normal slit-lamp exam (no dryness, injection, cell, flare, infiltrates, striae, epithelial ingrowth) and excellent visual acuity. The rate of GAPP can range from 0.2 to 1.3 % and is more common when higher femtosecond laser energy levels are used to create the LASIK flap [1, 2]. The light sensitivity can be incapacitating to the patient and can make for a very unhappy patient.
