Abstract
This paper describes the process of commissioning a flattening filter free 6MV (6XFFF) beam with brass compensators. The beam model limitations due to the beam hardening and scatter in the compensator are discussed. Measured and calculated inhomogeneity corrections for air and 0.27 g/cm3 wood are compared. The use of diode arrays for QA of the 6XFFF beam with compensators requires planspecific corrections based on the brass thickness along the ray. With such corrections, adequate gamma analysis passing rates are achieved with one planar and two 3D diode array dosimeters. This analysis was based primarily on the plans developed from the structure sets and objectives described in the AAPM TG-119 report. Our dosimetric results compare favorably to that publication.
