Abstract
The history of cosmetic rhinoplasty started with plastic repair of the nose as early as the Edwin Smith Papyrus that is thought to be at least 1,700 years old. Although replacement of portions of the nose from injuries or disease was the main indication for rhinoplasty, Dieffenbach, in 1845, introduced the concept of reoperation to improve the cosmetic appearance of the reconstructed nose. Roe, in 1891, reduced the hump of the nose. After that time, cosmetic rhinoplasty has been improved and modified by many authors. It helps the surgeon to understand the origins of the procedures presently being utilized in cosmetic rhinoplasty and the modifications that have occurred.
