Definition

The pancreas is organized into the exocrine and endocrine tissues. The endocrine pancreas consists of islands, i.e., islets of cells that secrete a number of hormones that include insulin, gastrin, glucagon, pancreatic polypeptide, VIP, and somatostatin.
